Baker Arts Center
![]() | |
| The Baker Arts Center is a dynamic facility offering visitors the opportunity to view art exhibits including national, regional and local artists. The center is the former home and lifetime dream of Irene Dillon and Francis Marion Baker. The couple left their home and a portion of the surrounding block to the Baker Arts Foundation to become the Baker Arts Center. An artist herself, Mrs. Baker spent many hours behind a canvas or a camera. Although Mr. Baker died in 1968, Mrs. Baker continued to work toward their dream and had over 100 pieces in a private collection at the time of her death in 1984. Today, the center offers a gallery that features national traveling exhibits, local one-artist shows, an annual national juried art show, works from area high schools and pieces from its own collection. In addition to this, a Discovery Center for children, educational studio for art classes and workshops and an extensive art library are available. The center also sponsors musical and theatrical productions throughout the year. The Foundation hosts two events, French Market and Night of Lights, each November in support of the center. French Market offers gift shops featuring handmade and donated items as well as a large silent auction and two luncheons. Night of Lights is an evening event where patrons have the opportunity to purchase fully decorated Christmas trees as well as other Christmas items. | Address:624 N.
