City Commission Meeting Update - June 10, 2025

On Tuesday, June 10th, 2025 the Liberal City Commission addressed the following items during their regularly scheduled meeting:

The meeting opened with a special donation presentation from Black Hills Energy to the Liberal Fire Department. Black Hills Energy provided a donation in the amount of $2,330 through their “Funds for Firefighters” program, which focuses on funding equipment and safety resources for communities they serve. Liberal Fire Chief Kelly Kirk shared that the funds will be used for a new training resource mannekin.

Consent Agenda items (airport leases) were approved by the Commission.

Commissioners received an update from the Youth Empowerment Truancy Court, which is funded through the one-cent sales tax. Staff and Truancy Court graduates spoke about services provided and the impact the program has made on families and students’ academic performance.

Fire Marshal, Cody Regier, provided an overview of the Liberal Fire Department’s efforts to educate fireworks vendors and the general public regarding the recently adopted fireworks ordinance. Increased enforcement activities were also discussed.

The Commission voted to approve a quit claim deed assigning new ownership of a city-owned land easement which blocked access to a residential property located near Arkalon Park.

The next regularly scheduled Liberal City Commission meeting will take place June 24th, 2025 at 5:30 p.m.
