On Tuesday, April 22nd, 2025 the Liberal City Commission addressed the following items during their regularly scheduled meeting:
The meeting opened with a special employee award presentation. Mandy Read, Tourism Marketing Coordinator from the Convention & Visitor’s Bureau, was presented with the Employee of the Quarter award. Read was recognized specifically for her volunteerism and impact within the community. A special proclamation was also read in observance of Professional Municipal Clerks Week.
Consent agenda items (Convention & Visitors Bureau Advisory Board minutes, airport leases) were approved by the Commission.
Commissioners received a quarterly update on economic development activities from Seward County Development Corporation Executive Director, Eli Svaty.
Commissioners voted to approve Resolution No. 2433 abating multiple junk vehicles across various locations in Liberal.
The Commission approved the purchase of a 15’ mower from Keating Tractor & Equipment to be used by the Street Department. Commissioner Jeff Parsons abstained from the vote.
Commissioners also voted to adopt updated mission, vision, and values statements presented by staff. The new statements will be used to align leadership priorities, guide staff conduct, and steer the community as a whole towards a clear vision for the future. The City of Liberal’s newly adopted mission is, “To provide an exceptional quality of life for residents by nurturing a healthy economy full of opportunities; creating safe and connected neighborhoods; and embracing our diversity to foster a positive and welcoming community culture.”
