On Tuesday, October 8th the Liberal City Commission addressed the following items during their regularly scheduled meeting:
Consent Agenda items (airport leases) were approved by the Commission.
Hay-Rice & Associates provided an overview of the 2023 City of Liberal financial audit. Following Commission acceptance of the 2023 audit presentation, a proposed 2024 audit contract from Hay-Rice & Associates was provided consideration. The Commission discussed bringing the proposed audit agreement to a future meeting to allow time for further legal review.
Commissioners voted to approve the recommendation of the Liberal Area Metropolitan Planning Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals to change the official zoning of the property located at 304 E Pancake Blvd. from a C-2 (General Commercial District) to R-3 (Multiple Family Dwelling District) zoning designation. The zoning change will allow the development of an apartment housing project.
The Commission approved the purchase of restoration services to repair water slides at Adventure Bay Family Water Park. Commissioners also approved the repair of the Liberal Recreation Center gymnasium floor, which became damaged during recent roof replacement. A portion of the funds issued for gym floor repairs will be reimbursed by the construction company responsible for damages.
Commissioners reviewed and accepted a bid from B&G Services, LLC to complete concrete aprons, connecting sidewalks, and fencing post placement to complete the recently installed splash pad playgrounds at McCray and Mahuron Park. The vote passed 4-0 with Commissioner Ron Warren abstaining from the vote.
The Commission discussed compensation for the Interim City Manager position, which was recently filled by Chief Financial Officer, Scarlette Diseker. Commissioners voted to approve a gross monthly stipend of $2,250 for the duration of Diseker’s time serving in the interim role.
The next regularly scheduled Liberal City Commission meeting will take place October 22, 2024 at 5:30 p.m.
