On Tuesday, May 28th the Liberal City Commission addressed the following items during their regularly scheduled meeting:
Consent Agenda items (airport leases) were approved by the Commission.
Commissioners received an informational report from Watkins Public Strategies about legislation passed in the 2024 state session, providing details on special lobbying efforts made on the City of Liberal’s behalf.
The Commission voted to approve a memorandum of understanding between the City of Liberal and United School District 480 for the use of School Resource Officers to staff the district’s school locations for the upcoming academic year.
At the request of Commissioner Vazquez, the Commission opened discussion about Ordinance No. 4617. The ordinance, adopted by the Commission on April 23, institutes an annual registration requirement for all cats and dogs over the age of six months of age within Liberal’s city limits to begin in January 2025. The registration process was discussed by staff in further detail. The Commission took no action following the discussion.
