On Tuesday, March 12th the Liberal City Commission addressed the following items during their regularly scheduled meeting:
Consent Agenda items (Planning & Zoning minutes, code enforcement report, cereal malt business license, and airport lease) were approved by the Commission.
Commissioners received an update from the Building Services department regarding a substandard housing structure in the 800 block of North Pennsylvania which has been on a required repair timeframe since November 2023. Following discussion, the Commission gave consensus to extend the homeowner’s timeframe to make required exterior repairs through April 9, 2024.
Commissioners approved Resolution No. 2411 establishing a public hearing date for April 23, 2024 regarding the Ortuno Addition RHID project. The previously approved resolution notice was not printed, prompting the hearing date process to restart.
The Commission next approved a memorandum of agreement with the University of Kansas to provide annual live fire training for all firefighters stationed at the Liberal Airport to meet Part 139 airport requirements.
Commissioners reviewed two budgeted requests for IT hardware replacement, Windows 11 licenses, and the purchase of Sonicwall Licensing software. Hardware purchases will replace half of the City’s computer fleet as planned in Phase II of the City’s technology upgrade plan.
The Commission approved a roster of 44 individuals to participate in Liberal’s Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee. These participants were recruited across diverse sectors of the community to help review community feedback, prioritize long-range goals, and review content of the final comprehensive plan document to present to City Commissioners for adoption.
Commissioners also approved a quote for survey and design development for a new shooting range to be located at Arkalon Park. The range will replace the existing City facility and incorporate a law enforcement range area.
The next regularly scheduled Liberal City Commission meeting will take place March 26th at 5:30 p.m.
