The facility, located at 1600 W. Pancake Blvd. in Liberal’s industrial corridor, will support the assembly, testing, and distribution of Apogee’s lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery systems and related energy storage technologies for commercial, industrial, and grid-scale applications across the United States. The project represents Apogee’s first U.S. manufacturing presence and reflects the company’s long-term commitment to serving American customers from a centralized, cost-competitive location.
“Establishing a U.S. manufacturing footprint is a critical step in Apogee’s global growth strategy,” said Wen Lin, CEO of Apogee Power. “Liberal offers the infrastructure, workforce, and community partnership we were looking for—along with a strong understanding of energy-intensive manufacturing. This location allows us to serve U.S. customers more efficiently while building a durable, long-term presence in the American market.”
The Liberal facility will initially occupy approximately 20,000 square feet, with room for future expansion as demand grows. Operations will include light manufacturing, system integration, quality control, and logistics, with the flexibility to scale production as market conditions evolve.
Apogee’s site selection was driven by Liberal’s strategic advantages, including its central U.S. location, proximity to major highway and rail networks, available industrial facilities, reliable power infrastructure, and access to a growing workforce with experience in manufacturing, energy, and industrial operations.
“Attracting a company that produces advanced battery solutions highlights Kansas’ competitiveness in today’s energy technology economy," Kansas Department of Commerce Deputy Secretary Joshua Jefferson said. "Apogee’s investment recognizes the strength of Liberal and the talent of Kansans.”
Local leaders emphasized the collaborative approach that helped secure the project.
“We’re excited to welcome Apogee to Liberal,” said Eli Svaty, Executive Director of the Seward County Development Corporation. “This investment builds on our region’s strengths in energy, logistics, and advanced manufacturing. It also signals that global technology companies see value in smaller, execution-focused communities that can move quickly and deliver.”
“Liberal has so many qualities to be proud of, and we are honored that Apogee Power selected our city to expand their market operations,” Liberal City Manager, Scarlette Diseker, said. Liberal Mayor Jose Lara added that, “Leaders across Liberal worked diligently to showcase our competitive strengths and find solutions to assist Apogee with establishing their first North American facility.”
The project was supported by the Seward County Development Corporation, the City of Liberal, the Kansas Department of Commerce, and regional partners who worked closely with Apogee to evaluate sites, navigate regulatory requirements, and prepare the facility for specialized manufacturing operations.
Apogee is currently preparing the Liberal facility for production and expects to begin operations in the summer of 2026. The company anticipates hiring thirty employees in the initial phase, with plans to expand to seventy positions added as production ramps up.
